Peak experiences in Val Gardena

The mountain regions of the Dolomites are a paradise for mountaineers and climbers. Rugged cliffs, bizarre rocky summits and pointed ridges await you during your climbing holidays in Val Gardena. As a starting point for your activities in the magnificent mountains, the Residence – Wellness Ariola in Selva di Val Gardena is simply excellent. Surrounded by majestic rock formations, the village lies in the wild and romantic Val Gardena. The bright limestone formations of the Odle Peaks, the Sella Massif and the Sassolungo are very close and offer challenging climbing routes of varying difficulty. When conquering the “Pale Mountains”, you will follow the footsteps of the mountaineer Luis Trenker, a son of the South Tyrolean Val Gardena.

Border experiences in high mountains: vie ferrate in the Val Gardena

The Dolomites in Val Gardena offer a great variety of delightful climbing trails. Some of the alpine peaks are relatively easy to conquer, while some others require a tremendous amount of endurance, stamina and – naturally – willpower. One of the oldest climbing routes in the Dolomites is the via ferrata “Pößnecker”. It leads over the Passo Sella to the Sella Peak at an altitude of 2,941 meters. The trail is considered to be particularly difficult and is only recommended for experienced climbers. Slightly less demanding is the easy via ferrata to the big and small Cir Peak in the Odle Group. The trail winds up to an altitude of 2,592 meters. Among the classics in Val Gardena there is the Oskar-Schuster Trail in the Sassolungo Group. It leads to the distinctive summit of the Sassopiatto and takes you past the Passo Sella House, the Lodges of Sassolungo and Sassopiatto. Not to be forgotten is the Sas Rigais via ferrata, which is classified as middle- difficult and where you can reach a height of 3,025 meters. The panorama from this height is indescribably beautiful.

Guided climbing tours and training grounds

During a guided climbing tour, you will conquer the cliffs of the Dolomites accompanied by a local guide. In Val Gardena there are two alpine schools and mountain guides (info@gardenaguides.it - info@catores.com - info@maurobernardi.com). Upon request, during your climbing holiday Dolomites you may participate in a guided mountain tour. Climbing walls for practice can be found in the village of S. Cristina in the sport center Iman, in Ortisei at the Tennis Center and in Selva in the climbing hall Nives. At all these locations you may take advantage of a rainy day to improve your skills or to learn the correct climbing techniques.
